Mr. Darren Sawyer, SES
Senior Advisor for Navy Intelligence
Enterprise Information Technology


Mr. Darren Sawyer is the Senior Advisor for Navy Intelligence Enterprise Information Technology for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (DCNO) for Information Dominance (N2/N6). Mr. Sawyer also serves as the Navy’s Intelligence Community Chief Information Officer and the Navy’s senior representative to a myriad of Intelligence Community Boards and Councils. Prior to becoming a Department of the Navy Senior Executive in August 2013, Mr. Sawyer served in the Defense Industry as an Executive Consultant for Enterprise Architecture Transformation and Information Technology solutions integration. His areas of expertise included Enterprise IT efficiencies, Enterprise IT Operations optimization as well as emerging technologies solutions integration. While in the Defense Industry he was recognized for his exceptional leadership and technical expertise for Sensitive Compartmented Intelligence enterprise architecture transformation projects supporting the U.S Army Intelligence Chief Information Officer. Mr. Sawyer is a retired Information Dominance Corps CAPTAIN with over 26 years of service in the areas of Operations, Intelligence and Information Technology. As a Surface Warfare Officer he served as a Combat Information Center Officer, Electronic Warfare Officer, Damage Control Assistant and Destroyer Squadron Communications Officer. He served in Senior Intelligence Officer positions with Commander, Second Fleet, USS George Washington (CVN73) and Commander, Submarine Forces/Allied Submarines Atlantic. As a Joint Specialty Officer (JSO) he served as a Joint Task Force J2/Deputy J2 in numerous contingency operations, as the Director of Joint Intelligence Support Elements (JISE/JIC) and as Commander US National Intelligence Cell-Sarajevo (USNIC). As the Senior Naval Intelligence Officer while assigned to United States Forces Korea, he was recognized for his exceptional body of work in operational intelligence and threat warning analysis in leading the Korean Peninsula Threat Warning Center operational transformation and Threat Warning Problems revitalizations. As an Information Technology Professional, he served as Data Center Manager and Tactical Software Development Project Officer for Fleet Combat Direction Systems Support Activity Atlantic, as Fleet Intelligence Systems Officer for Commander Second Fleet, as Director of Systems Strategic Planning for the United States European Command and Joint Analysis Center, Molesworth and as the Director of Information Technology/Chief Information Officer for the Office of Naval Intelligence. 

Mr. Sawyer earned a bachelor’s of science degree in economics and psychology from the Virginia Military Institute, a master’s of science degree in information technology management from Naval Postgraduate School and a master’s of arts degree in strategic analysis from the Air War College. Over his military career Mr. Sawyer received numerous unit, personal and campaign awards to include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legions of Merit as well as Joint and Navy Meritorious Service Medals. He has been recognized for his published writings on Leadership, Joint Intelligence Operations, Threat Warning Analysis and Enterprise Architecture Transformation Strategies.
