Captain Kevin C. Hill
Commander, Afloat Training Group Atlantic


CAPT Kevin Hill graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Following Nuclear Power School and Surface Warfare Officers School, CAPT Hill began his first sea duty assignment in USS MISSISSIPPI (CGN 40) where he served as the M-1 Division Officer and later as the Main Propulsion Assistant and Reactor Training Assistant.  During this tour, CAPT Hill deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm.  CAPT Hill’s next sea duty assignment was as the Weapons Officer in the commissioning crew of USS BENFOLD (DDG 65).  He later served as BENFOLD’s Combat Systems Officer and completed BENFOLD’s first deployment.  Following this tour, he transferred to USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) and served as the Reactor Electrical Assistant.  During his tour, THEODORE ROOSEVELT deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and supported NATO operations in Kosovo and to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch.   CAPT Hill’s next assignment was to USS HAWES (FFG 53) as Executive Officer where he completed a Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf deployment.

In 2005 CAPT Hill assumed command of USS PREBLE (DDG 88).  During this tour PREBLE deployed to the Arabian Gulf with the JOHN C. STENNIS Strike Group in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.  Following this tour CAPT Hill reported to USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) and served as Reactor Officer.  During this tour TRUMAN deployed to the Arabian Gulf.  Most recently CAPT Hill served as Commanding Officer USS NORMANDY (CG 60) where he completed a Northern European deployment and AEGIS Baseline Nine Cruiser modernization.

CAPT Hill’s significant shore assignments include a tour as the Close-In Weapons System Fire Controlman ‘C’ School Division Officer at the Naval Guided Missiles School in Dam Neck, VA; as the Ballistic Missile Defense Command and Control Branch Head for the Joint Staff's Director for Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment (J-8) Joint Theater Air and Missile Defense Organization; as Officer-In-Charge of the Surface Nuclear Propulsion Mobile Training Team in Norfolk, VA; and as the Director for Requirements, Policy, and Experimentation (N8/9) on the staff of Commander Second Fleet. Most recently CAPT Hill assumed command of Afloat Training Group Atlantic in June 2014.

CAPT Hill’s decorations include two Legions of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, five Meritorious Service Medals, four Navy Commendation Medals, three Navy Achievement Medals, and various individual and unit campaign awards.  He holds a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a Master of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University, and has been designated a Joint Specialty Officer.
